Immune power and Inner Peace in COVID times

Immune power and Inner peace according to Yoga and Ayurveda

Now more than ever we are seeking pathways to strong immune health and sound inner peace and when it comes to Yoga & Ayurveda, I've the impression that we've hit the jackpot in what's possible.

Why ?

Let's take a look and see..

In reference to Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra 1.2 & it’s meaning

Yoga Chitta Vṛtti Nirodha

Yoga - as we experience it, is the union of our inner and outer worlds.

Chitta - mind

Vṛtti - constructs or thoughts

Nirodha - total discipline

We garner context that the Very nature of Yoga is mastery over the fluctuations of the mind.

According to sages of the times, mind is right there in the middle of body and soul, it is the bridge between the un-manifest and manifest; and for this reason can be tricky to effect as it's far more subtler than sensations of the body.

This is why, when you practice with me you’ll experience body positivity in many ways - referring to the process it takes to re-sensitise the felt sense that this world is so adept at disengaging.

Body honouring is an Ayurvedic speciality.

To return to the body is to return home, it’s the only one you’ll ever have and this is something that is to be wholeheartedly known.

From my understanding, we may otherwise fall into the cataclysm of spiritual bypassing, and a slave to the yearnings of the senses which is an incredibly un-resourced place to be.

The body responds well to naturally inclined wisdom teachings and with body appeased, it can be somewhat easier to ascend the mind.

When we bring the mind into the body by utilising the timeless tools given of Yoga, we bring vigour and steadiness to the body whilst calming fluctuations of the mind respectively - we're given opportunity to create space for the remembrance that our nature is ease.

But what if..

every third day a great unseen disturbance is conveyed. For example, the governing body of your community passes a new guideline putting restrictions on how you've otherwise attained ease ?

The mind starts swirling, news stories become deliciously epic conversation pieces and you find yourself in hyperbole and losing connection to your own feet.

Here is what I want to offer you..

your body is designed and refined over millions of years to evolve with all kinds of crazy. You are a biological miracle and the magic pill that can put you on a steady path to heal, is of your creating.

Our minds are powerful..

& what I'm finding both in my own practice and as a space holder for Yoga practitioners within community, is that there are two strong potential perspectives around the COVID situation emerging during this time.

  1. A terrifying mutant virus has descended upon us and we must swiftly develop a vaccine and maximally minimise all engagements until such time.

  2. We don’t know how this is going to go and yet what we do know is that fear exists in the unknown so lets get proactive and dive into unravelling THAT.

Breathe with me and enjoy the space of possibility, that we can all live in these epic times with bandwidth for inner harmony.

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right doing,

there is a field. I’ll meet you there.

When the soul lies down in that grass,

the world is too full to talk about.

Ideas, language, even the phrase “each other”doesn’t make any sense.

The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.

Don’t go back to sleep.

You must ask for what you really want.

Don’t go back to sleep.

People are going back and forth across the doorsill

where the two worlds touch.

The door is round and open.

Don’t go back to sleep.”
— Verse 2 - A Great Wagon - Rumi

3 tips for..

Immune power and Inner Peace during COVID times

  • Good uninterrupted sleep;

Sleep is your opportunity to go deep into healing the biosphere that is you. A potentially surprising revelation may be, that, sleep is not actually the time when we best ‘assimilate’ the experience of our waking hours. Rather sleep is the replenishment pathway for all levels of our being. Go to bed wired and you’ll likely find yourself awakening the same way - wired for yet another stress reactive day. Ayurveda generally recommends winding down prior to sleeping and retiring for the night earlier than 10pm to awaken before 6am. In order to sleep well, we need energy to enter the space of healing; which leads us to the next prescription for our times..

  • daily Yoga and meditation dedications,

Meditation clears the culmination of micro inflammations that we are all steadily exposed to every day. Constant stimulation devoid of moments to declutter the mind, drains the human organism of energy resulting in the familiar cycles of stress. There are many modes to meditate and one can easily find an abundance of ‘apps for that’. Best yet to begin with mindful action and notice how you respond to distraction. Chances are that if you find distraction your constant reaction, dedicated meditative and/or nourishing Yoga stillness practices could be your medicine.

  • familiar routine (known as Dinacharya in Ayurveda)

The great love ‘Ayurveda’ implies that we have one life-time within which we can to learn how to ritualise the art of living with Awareness. Health is not defined merely by the absence of disease, rather the harmony and vigour of all natural body processes including, digestion, tissue formation and function, the senses, mind and soul. Daily routine which nods to this intention is a foundational teaching of Ayurveda. Learn about one of my most favourite daily Ayurvedic routines here. Daily exercise to a light sweat is also recommended (join me for regular Wednesday livestream practices for that) and you may also consider adding fresh air nature walks to your daily routine as well.

In conclusion, I wish to offer a personal favourite practice of reclaiming spaciousness for inner peace. As a busy mama, me-time is a rare commodity and when I get it all to myself it’s easy to fill it with ‘all the 10,000 things’ however (at least for a little while) try nothing time yes no device, no book nothing, be in the moment and notice what’s present. Brave getting board until you feel the natural arising of inspiration from within. Many new inspirations and ideas have found me that way and I’m pretty sure that’s how children play.

Wishing you many moments of inner harmony and if I may be of service in a mentoring capacity, please reach out
